Counting
To count a group, say one number for each object and count every object once. The last number you say tells you how many objects are in the group.
Your goals
- ✓You can count objects and numbers up to 100.
- ✓You can use count, total correctly.
- ✓You can touch or point to each object once while you count.
Words to know
- count:
- Say one number for each object, in order.
- total:
- How many objects there are altogether.
Examples
- 1Touch each finger once as you count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. There are 5 fingers.
- 2Point to each dot once: ●●●●●●●●. There are 8 dots.
Check these
- • Do not skip an object or count the same object twice.
- • Keep every number, symbol, label, and unit in its correct place.
- • Show enough working to check how you reached your answer.
Helpful habits
- • Read the whole question before choosing what to do.
- • Show one clear step at a time and check each step.
- • If you are stuck, draw a model, try smaller numbers, or revisit the example.
