Area of Parallelograms

A parallelogram has two pairs of parallel sides. Its area is base × height. Do not use the slanted side — use the perpendicular height!

Words to know

parallelogram:
A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel opposite sides.
perpendicular height:
The shortest distance between the chosen base and the opposite side.

Examples

  • 1Base 12 cm, height 5 cm: Area = 12 × 5 = 60 cm²
  • 2Base 7 cm, height 9 cm: Area = 7 × 9 = 63 cm²
